The cornea is the clear, dome-shaped tissue on the front of your eye that forms the front of the anterior chamber of the eye. The cornea’s job is to focus light into the eye.

 Keratitis

  • Keratitis is an inflammation of the cornea — Keratitis may or may not be associated with an infection.
  • Non-infectious keratitis can be caused by a relatively minor injury, by wearing your contact lenses too long or by a foreign body in the eye
  • Infectious keratitis can be caused by viruses, bacteria and rarely fungi or parasites.
  • The most common type of infectious keratitis is due to the cold sore virus, Herpes Simplex
  • If you have eye redness or other symptoms of keratitis, make an appointment with our clinic. 
  • With prompt attention, mild to moderate cases of keratitis can usually be effectively treated without loss of vision.

Red eye

  • Red eye is a common problem that can affect one or both eyes.
  • The redness associated with red eye comes from blood vessels on the surface of your eye that are expanded (dilated) due to some form of irritation or infection. Occasional, brief periods of red eye are usually no cause for worry.
  • If you think the redness is caused by a reaction to over-the-counter eyedrops, try a different brand or take a break from using them.
  • Contact the clinic for an appointment if you have red eye that doesn’t clear up after several days, especially if you have a thick or nearly continuous pus or mucous discharge.

Dry Eye

  • Dry eye happens when the eye doesn’t make enough tears or makes poor-quality tears. As a result, the surface of the eye isn’t lubricated enough. In other words, there’s a lack of balance in the tear-flow system.
  • Which Dry Eye Treatment Is Best for You? Because many things can cause dry eye, a variety of treatments are available. For most people with occasional or mild dry eye, over-the-counter eye drops (artificial tears) can help.
  • If your symptoms are persistent and more serious, Progressive Vision can help. Our team can offer other options or switch medicines that may be causing dry eye symptoms
